I'm unsure on how to do a bios flash properly, not too sure what's important, so I'll just list this.
cpu = Phenom II 955 Black
mobo = Sabertooth 990fx (The first revision)
Bios version = 0402 (Released 05/16/2011)
psu = 750w

I've downloaded AI suite II, along with the update module, and the user manual which has been useful.
Planning on buying an FX 8350 if the flash works., then a gtx 960 when that's out to replace the 460.
Is there anything I should know before I "Update BIOS from Internet" from AI suite?

Solution
Download the bios to a USB flash drive with nothing else on it. Shut down your computer. Plug the USB drive into the back of your system on the port marked with a white surround.

Boot up the computer and enter the bios. Press F7 to go into advanced settings. Then select the tab at the top that says tool. Then there should be an option for flashing the bios, I think Asus calls it EZflash or something like that. Select that, then it will ask where to save the current bios, select the flash drive, then it will ask for the new bios to flash, again point it to the correct file on your flash drive. Give it a few minutes and it will be finished.

This is all out of memory so I may have missed a step but it should get you there.

Also, a heads...
Yes. I don't recommend that option.
Download the BIOS version via browser first rather than via AI Suite. Software can have issues when updating BIOS.
I prefer the old way where you put the BIOS on a USB and go into the BIOS and update the BIOS that way:

Also, a heads up. Any custom bios settings for OC'ing or anything of that nature will be wiped out. Write down your settings if you have any before doing the flash.

There are two blue USB 3.0 ports with a white surround, are these fine for the stick?
Also just to make sure, the bios 4mb .ROM is called "SABERTOOTH-990FX-ASUS-1604.ROM" and that's what goes in the USB?

There should be a button on the back that says BIOS under the USB 3.0 ports. Beneath that button is a USB 2.0 port surrounded in solid white. That is the port you need to use.

The file you download from asus should be a zip file. Unzip it and inside will be a .cap file. That is the bios file that needs to be put on a flash drive.
