Hey all What are the best and stablest catalyst drivers. I have a ATI 9800pro and my god! i just formated/ installed 4.4s and now my damn monitor driver does not remember itself every reboot. I have to go and scan for hardware changes for it to pickup.

Viewsonic A90f monitor
MSI R9800 Pro

Also my pc picks up the card as a 9800 XT... not sure why!

[sarcastic voice]Hmm... I'm not sure where to check, if only someone started a thread called "Catalyst Comparison" then it would be really easy to get an answer to your question.[/sarcastic voice]

In all seriousness, if there's no answer there for you, then post back here. If all else fails, revert back to any older drivers that worked fine for you.

Try CAT 4.5 and maybe you should try to upgrade the .inf file for your monitor. Go to the Viewsonic website and D/L this :
http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers/driver_information.cfm?category=0&formName=monitor&key=37

Sometimes this can help.

I think you would get more responses if you fixed the title.

Sablest drivers = Cat3.10, I would have recommended Cat3.9 but support for GLSL is not included in that driver release.

Please also read the Catalyst Comparison at the top of our forum for some really great infromation.

Seriously, go with the latest drivers, unless you find a serious issue with a game you play. I agree that you should reinstall your monitor drivers afetr installing the catalysts if you are having trouble.

Most of the recent releases have been bug fixes, there has been an increase to PS2.0 performance in 4.3, but really there has been no performance leaps in a while, mainly bug fixes.

So I'd say that most stable = 4.4 (* I have yet to add the 4.5, as I want to rework the tests a bit and get a day where I can roll back drivers too; but 4.5s [full ones this time, not the leaked ones] are running fine for me with Morrowind, UT2K4, NHL2003 [won't buy 2004 out of protest], GTA:VC and a few demos out there).
FASTEST depends on what you're playing but the Catalyst 3.9s have performed very well in the benchies run in both the first, and latest comparison.

If you're only trying to max scores even the Catalyst 3.2 (3Dmk01) and 3.4 (3Dmk03) can have their advanatages (some optimizations which have since been removed.

For stability, I'd say the latest are usually the best, but not everyone'sexperience will be the same, especially with older cards, but your R9800P should enjoy similar gains and stability.

Just my two frames worth from what I've seen.

Also check the reviews that are linked within the Catalyst thread as there are ALOT of reviews to be had out there. For older drivers follow the link to the earlier post.

EA's vendor specific optimizations.

[rant]
I have bought/owned every version of NHL since '96, but never again until they drop vendor specific crap. Now I refuse to BUY any of their products until that changes.

Just a personal pet peeve. Everything for Everyone is my motto. Do you/I get a discount if we didn't buy someone else's product? Why should a loyal consumer like myself be screwed? I lived through the horror of '97 and came back for '98 and beyond, so I feel like I'm owed not being screwed with. Is that too much to ask? If it is, then don't ask for my money to play your game and continue your development of things I don't want.
