It was the worst of times... I found an altar in the SMC near the exit,
and got myself very close. Then along came a horde of white worms. I made
a hasty exit and pursued DD instead. Another altar!
With a little help from a tension room of orcs on the level, I got
precrowned with Serpent's Bite.

Here's the odd part... This character (a wizard) didn't get a single
corpse generated from his saccing nor was a spellbook generated from the
sacced creatures.

Is this something I should be writing off as an amazing anomaly, or does
sacraficing a creature modify/nullify the chances of certain types of item
drops occurring?

Corpses aren't generated for sacrified creatures; I belive other items
are still generated as normal.

AFAIK they are not. Guaranteed items are lost upon saccing. If you e.g.
berzio tame the Minotaur Emperor and guide him out of the maze to sac
him you get nothing. Same goes for the Emperor Moloch in 1.0 (unsacable
in 1.1 due to altar destruction). You do not seem to get the usual
orcish knife/spear either from corresponding races, so one could assume
the same is the case for the special wizard spellbook generation.

You might be correct about monster-specific drops (I've not tested such
personaly) - corpses fit into that category as well - but the spellbooks
he's talking about would be the same as any other random drop... so they
should have thier normal odds.

Btw, as far as I can tell orcs don't drop knives and spears more than
anything else, they only generate them by throwing them at you.

Once in a failed attempt to statistically significantly determine the effects
of food preservation, etc. on corpse generation, I wished for and killed
insane quantities of orcs. The quantity of orcish knives I found on their
bodies was actually much higher than normal. I might be able to dig up the
information, but it might be long gone.
