Safe CPU Temps?

Recently got a new 1060 and got that all fixed in. I realized my CPU is really dated - an i7 870, and I was wondering if I overclock it to 3.5 GHz it will get rid of some of the bottleneck.

I have tried it at 3.5ghz and it was very stable but the temps were between 70-80°C.

Is this fine temps for long term use? I'm very new to this overclocking business and want to try to remove some of the bottlenecking.

70 to 80 for prolonged usage is not recommended. for long usage, the max temps should be in the low 60s. try to get a better cooler.
