Question Safe/Normal Ram Temperatures w/ No Manual Overclock?

my ram is Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x16 DDR4 3600mhz; I have no manual overclock, but I do have XMP enabled in Bios (the profile is DOCP DDR4-3597 18-22-22-42-1.35v), and I only just learned that HWInfo displays the DIMM temps, while monitoring my GPU. I do not plan on manually overclocking, but I'm looking for some clarification, because I've been seeing conflicting answers

I've seen people say up to 70-80c is within safe operating range; I've then seen people say that above 50c becomes unstable, while others say that above 40c is bad, and others say their system works perfectly above 50c. I'm not sure what to go off, especially because a lot of these reports are from people who are overclocking. on HWInfo, I watch the DIMM Temperature Sensors, which are listed as "DIMM [2] Temperature (Bank 1/DIMM A_2)" and "DIMM [3] Temperature (Bank 3/DIMM B_2)"


on idle, the first sensor (DIMM [2]) sits at 32-33c, and the second one (DIMM [3]) sits at 33-34c; the second sensor is always hotter than the first, I find. I ran HCI Memtest twice because it was the first thing I thought of to get some quick ram usage, and set it to use pretty much all the available Memory; the first time it ran for about 20 minutes and the temps of DIMM [2] were around 38c and the temps on DIMM [3] were at 40.5c

I left my PC once it reached 40c after maybe 3-5 minutes, and when I came back 20 minutes later, it seemed to have stagnated at 40c since I left. I ran HCI Memtest for the second time a few hours later for 1 full hour; this time, it spent probably 45/60 minutes stagnated at the same temps, the DIMM [2] was comfortably sitting at 39c, and the DIMM [3] was sitting at 41.5c



I tried a couple of games, mainly Elden Ring, and played for about 40-50 minutes; DIMM [2] was stagnated at 36-37c, and the DIMM [3] reading was showing 39.5-40c. for what its worth, HCI Memtest never turned up errors and I was running smoothly in all games, but I'm wondering if this is okay temperature behavior for my ddr4 3600mhz ram. I'm concerned I might be pushing a 'barrier' or a threshold of temps by constantly being at 38-40c on the DIMM [3] B_2 slot, and pushing above that towards 42c under Memtest, since I see people saying to stay below 40c

since I'm not very knowledgeable on ram, I'm also a bit worried that the DIMM sensors increasing to ~40c after 10-15 minutes of gaming is a bit too quick and that it might creep even higher in longer gaming sessions? I'm not sure if it will keep increasing over time or if 40c is like a 'stagnation' point for my ram's temps under most loads. again, I have no manual overclocking, I have only enabled the XMP/DOCP profile

I also have 2 front case fans for intake on a Phanteks Eclipse p360a case, 5800x CPU temps are typically 50-60c while gaming, and RTX 3070 GPU temps are 40-50c; the gpu also has 3 fans with a custom fan curve, so nothing is getting too hot. is this something to watch closely? do people recommend staying below 40c because it's bad to go over that, or do they say that to give some headway for manual overclocking? any clarification is a big help; even if I'm not crashing or getting errors, I would like to know if I'm encroaching into bad territory with the ram temperatures or if I'm perfectly fine at 40c under load

I've those exact same DIMMs. Your temps are normal. Nothing to be concerned about. The heatspreader does it's work.

One of the DIMMs maybe warmer due to the proximity to CPU/GPU and what airflow is in your case. Again, pretty normal.

Edit: In fact, your temps are lower than mine!! :) Mine move between 34-42 degrees. The difference being the load on the system.

I'm not sure but I think B_2 is closer to the CPU? I thought it would go A1, A2, B1, B2 with A1 being closest and B2 being the furthest, but it might be the other way around? B2 being closest and A2 being the furthest

I have an Asus B550-F motherboard for context. thanks for the clarification though, I think it tends to plateau when it reaches 40c, as described in my post
 
Considering VRAM operates well into the 60-70C range and the underlying technology is the same as system RAM, this isn't anything to really worry about.

As long as none of your components are reaching an average temperature of 100C, it's usually nothing to worry about.
