Safe place to build computer and how to build it safely

Hi,

Going to try to build my first computer soon. I read that a wooden table is a safe place to build it on but I have a big carpet under it, will that be a problem? I'm building it at my mom's and she has carpets everywhere...

Is there anything else that I should take into consideration? What are the main ways new builders destroy their parts? Also, do you suggest putting the motherboard, cpu, video card together before it is in the case and plugging it into the psu to check if everything is working?

Build it on a wooden table or granite, if you have floorboards, just build barefoot, when installing parts on motherboard, rest the motehrboard onto its box, max sure the cpu is aligned properly wth the socket
