Question Safe to just copy and paste large files?

I'm going to be buying a new SSD soon, but need to install some files on my current ssd for the time being and have an old harddrive to temporarily store files in. Is there any risk in just copying and pasting files, or would it be better if I did it some other way.

No, not at all...
Just make sure that your current old HDD is in good shape without bad blocks, to ensure data would be correctly copied over (Just check the SMART results with CrystalDiskInfo or HDTunepro free trial).
