Safe to remove Hard drive?

I need to replace my optical drive but I need to disconnect and temporarily remove my hard drive, is it safe to remove a hard drive? Is the data on it safe? Its life?

Yes, your data is still going to be safe even if you disconnect your SATA drive from your computer temporarily.

Just wanted to come back and add a few things

It is completely safe to remove a hard drive in case it's in the way, I personally didn't remove it, just disconnected the 2 (sometimes there could be 3) cables from the hard drive.

Another thing is I didn't manually uninstall any old dvd drives in device manager before installing the new one, It all happened once I booted to windows remember to ask any questions you may have before doing anything! Thank you.
