Safe to test?

Hey guys.

I recently fried my motherboard, and im not sure whether my cpu or ram still works. I know some people who can test my ram, but no one who has a spare mobo around that fits my cpu, and I was wondering whether it would be safe to buy a new motherboard and test the components in there, or if it would break the new motherboard.

if the RAM has tested good, and the power supply is good. do not forget to test the PSU. a damaged CPU should not hurt anything. it should either work or not.

The problem you have is that if the CPU is damaged, you;ve then just brought a new mobo, and are still on that old socket. Specifically Sandy/Ivy, core2, AM3/AM3+, buying a new CPU for any of those would be a waste if the CPU is dead.

What CPU are we talking about, you may need to consider calling it a loss, and stepping up.

I have never heard of a damaged cpu causing damage to a motherboard. Now that doesn't mean it cannot but it seems very unlikely.

I have a skylake cpu, so its pretty recent and if it was gone i would upgrade to a kaby lake processor.

well re-buying into skylake, or kabylake (hint get a 200 series board, in case your CPU is dead) would not be a waste.

What cpu exactly? If its K buy a Z270 Mobo.

depends on budget, if you have a k without Z, then you get the higher base clock speeds, but can't OC.
