I have an FX-8320 non-overclocked with a 3.7Ghz Turbo (default) and my voltages go up to like 1.448v when underload at 3.7Ghz, but it goes down I think sometimes below 1.2v in idle while the cpu is running at 1.4Ghz. Is this safe ? Or is it just normal from the FX series cpu. If it is not safe does it mean I have to change my voltages in the BIOS ? I don't know because I think when I checked my BIOS it said max voltage 1.55v or something ..

Any professional cpu help ?

Your cpu is a 6300 (6 core) .. I have now seen that for my cpu the stock voltages are about 1.336v, while I am getting 1.4v~ ... Is this because on my BIOS I have the Multiplier/Voltage change set to "auto"? If I set it to manual it will give me the ability to set my overclocks and set my voltage. Should I set my voltage manually and what should I set it to roughly? I'm thinking maybe about 1.35v~ like you?

Thank you for the quick reply

Yes I understand that however they overclock similarly. Disable the auto settings and features such as power saving and turbo boost. See what you volts read when on auto and then swap to manual and put in the stock volts you saw. 1.35v is a good starting point.

Try putting the clock multiplier up a bit till you get a target speed of 4.0ghz. Boot into windows and run prime 95 on small FFT for 10-15mins. If no cores fail and your temps stay under 62c you can bump up the multiplier more and retest.

By all means don't take my advice as expert since I'm a rookie overclocker but 4.2ghz was easily manageable at stock volts. I have seen similar results with people overclocking the 8320.

I just manually set my clock to 3.5Ghz (no turbo) and set my voltages to around 1.36v~. Everything looks fine so far and I just ran a torture test in Prime95 for about 8 minutes and vcore i was keeping an eye on i was getting 1.35v~ and my max temps on cpu were 50 C. So far I think this is good, so sometime later I will go overclock my cpu when I figure if my motherboard can handle overclock and what frequency. Thank you for the help Mr Dobing.

I have an ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0 (4+2 power phase) so atm i don't know what to do if I want to overclock because I have seen some people with the ASRock 970 Extreme3 which is a little more expensive but is still 4+2 power phase and some guys OCed an FX-8320 to 4Ghz with no problem i think the same way i underclocked mine from 3.7 to 3.5Ghz

Yes I am aware of that. But I have seen people get a single reading for example 1.32v without changing while underload. Mine changes a little bit now I lowered my vcore so underload it runs at 1.304v - 1.320v. Is is ok for stock frequency on the FX-8320? (3.5Ghz)

Actually... I had my fx 8320 to 4.45ghz(233x19) with offset to a maximum of 1.32v the only concern was that It would reach 70 socket temps in prime95, but it was prolly because of auto voltages in cpu/nb section. (t-40tb).
