Hello

So do you really need to worry about Safely Removing your controller from Windows 11?
I mean it's not like it's a hard drive where you really should be concerned about it?

Can it really cause any problems if you don't do it properly ?

I have a Microsoft XBOX 360 Controller for Windows - if that's germane (I never get to use that weird 'reminds me of Michael Jackson' word in conversation - and it's not spelled the way I expected either) ?

BTW, I find it annoying that you can't simply go to the quick launch and Safely Remove controllers from there in the same way you would with a hard drive.

Is there any shortcut/quicker way to do this without having to go to Windows Settings every time?

Thank you for your help

You can unplug any USB device from the computer without going through the "safely remove" thing with the exception of external storage drives and you recently were writing something to it. That's about 99% the reason why that thing is needed: to make sure external storage drives wrote everything it needed to.

I mean, my Xbox controller is connected wirelessly. I don't have to go through a procedure to turn it off. I just turn it off.

I don't have an X-Box so I don't know what device it appears as to Windows. For USB drives you can go into Device Manager, expand the Disk Drives section, right-click on the specific drive and select Properties. In the Properties dialog select the Policy tab and uncheck the 'Enable write-caching on this device' checkbox. You can then safely unplug the drive without flushing buffers (because there will be no buffers to flush!). You may be able to do the same with an X-Box just to be sure?
