Hey Everyone,

The title pretty much explains it. What is the safest voltage for a 24/7 overclock on a i7 4770k? Also what are safe temperatures, I've that any voltage is fine so long as you can keep safe temperatures, is this correct, and what are safe temperatures?

Thanks

Hi and welcome.

Getting the right voltage depends on how much of an overclock you want to achieve. I found the easiest way to overclock was to increase the multiplier to 4Ghz and check the voltage at its automatic setting. Then, I'd lower it until the computer became unstable. Finally, I went back into BIOS, increased the multiplier to 4.2Ghz and followed the same voltage process. The difference in voltage between the two clock speeds becomes a formula I can use.

The common misconception is that high voltage is the cause of processor degradation. In fact, it's the associated (and untreated) increase in heat which does it. Providing you have a sufficient cooler, you can push the voltage as high as you like. It's generally considered...
Hi and welcome.

Getting the right voltage depends on how much of an overclock you want to achieve. I found the easiest way to overclock was to increase the multiplier to 4Ghz and check the voltage at its automatic setting. Then, I'd lower it until the computer became unstable. The common misconception is that high voltage is the cause of processor degradation. In fact, it's the associated (and untreated) increase in heat which does it. Providing you have a sufficient cooler, you can push the voltage as high as you like. It's generally considered that 75C-80C at 100% load is a safe temperature. Your processor will start to throttle at around 100C.

Thanks, that helped out a lot! For checking stability, should I use Prime95 or Intel Burn Test? Or should I use a blend of both?
