Same problem like questioner's dad xp

I got an almost unused win xp but can't get it to connect with internet. All possible methods suggested from global community don't work. I changed RAM to no effect. Which new component should I add? I want it to work as it was the last gift from my mom & she died the same day. So any serious suggestion that could work, & I'll be grateful soling I live. Thnx
