Hello people,

I have been looking into getting the Samsung SyncMaster 191 T and was wondering what your opinions were on the monitor. Im going to be using it at University for Web design and multimedia things. I also play games but im not a pro gamer or anything. I currently have a 15” TFT with 30ms and don’t have any problems with it in windows and games. The only thing is that iv heard the 191 T has problems in games and fast movement. Im not a perfectionist and don’t mind having ghosting in games but I just don’t want it to be really bad. For £600 pound I don’t want to have a load of problems like this. I don’t mind having a little ghosting in games but I don’t want it really bad and especially for £600. Anyways any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Here's my opinion...

You say you are going to do web design? Like the editors at Tomshardware said a few times already, LCD displays aren't yet good enough for design because of the amount of colors displayed, color brightness and color fidelity and that includes the 191T even though it boasts a 500:1 contrast ratio. You are far better to choose a good quality CRT with a 1600X1280 resolution.

But, if you absolutly want an LCD, I wouldn't choose a 19" because it has the same resolution of a 17". Although the 172T is very good, I would buy the NEC 1760V or 1760NX which has a 16ms response time. It is also less expensive than the 172T. The only thing is you won'T have the great looks the 172T has.

I think, but am not sure, that the 191T has the same pannel as the 172T and 152T.

Also, I hope you have a good video card to play games at 1280X1024 with high graphics because the image will go fussy at lower resolutions.

Thanx for the help.....im still curious about the ghosting though.... i would really like a 19" TFT screen and this one seems to be the best out there at the moment. Anyone else know about the ghosting? is it really that bad? i mean.....for £600 can it really be unbearable.

Thanx in advance

That may not be totally correct. PVA tech has high rt in intermediary shades, so that's where a lot of people notice ghosting. Let's say his 30ms panel utilizes a different tech that doesn't experience as much slowdown in intermediaries. Then it may seem like it ghosts less.

I have a 191T and you will see ghosting or trailing in games. It doesn't happen in all games however but I will be getting the successor to this monitor, the 192T I believe, when it comes out because it will have a 17ms response time. So I would either wait or go for a good quality CRT in the meantime.

Thank for all the help guys......just wondering if anyone knows about the new 192T and when that will be coming out? After reading up iv decided it's best that i wait for a better quaility 19" monitors.

Hmm, be interesting to see how that one looks. Will certainly go to the store to check it out. Now what happens to the $1000 Christmas present I get as an LCD monitor from 2 years ago (I wait and when I like lcd I can buy it), however if I decide I like my FE791SB too much then hmmm, perhaps a plasma TV is in order:)

Well I believe they're going to keep the small bezel. I just hope that trailing is no longer an issue with a speed of 17ms.
