Hi,

I just got the Samsung 830 256GB SSD and connected it via the supplied USB 2 kit to a PC running windows 7.

I wanted to see if the SSD required a firmware update so I ran magician software(3.1) after formatting the SSD(NTFS) using the supplied SSD-USB 2 connector. Windows recognizes the drive.

I ran Magician but it says "no Samsung SSD brand SSD found in the system". I just want to check if I have the latest firmware before installing it on my Mac.

DO I NEED TO INSTALL THE 830 IN THE INTERNAL DRIVE BAY SATA CONNECTOR INSIDE LAPTOP FOR MAGICIAN TO SEE IT?

And is there a problem with the Jan. 12, 2012 firmware update?

Thanks.

When you tried to test the ssd did you use a USB cable to connect it to an external USB port on the pc running Windows 7?

Did you read the SSD Magician owners manual? The SSD Magician only supports SATA interface.

Some functions of the Samsung SSD Magician software may not work properly on PCs using the SSD in a RAID configuration. In particular, the Magician software may not be able to detect the Samsung SSD in such a scenario.

The Samsung SSD Magician application may not be able to detect the Samsung SSD in some PCs with AMD’s Microprocessor (Chipset) if the old version of the AMD AHCI driver is installed on Windows 7. To remedy this, install the latest version of the AMD AHCI driver or use the standard AHCI driver provided with Windows 7.

BTW - Did you remember to go into the motherboard System BIOS and switch from IDE mode to AHCI mode?

Thanks for replying. I am on a Macbook Pro and wanted to avoid mounting the SSD into the OWC Datadoubler, putting into the Mac, and then finding out I had to update the firmware, removing the SSD and then removing the HDD on my Dell laptop to mount the SSD.

What is the supplied laptop USB to SATA cord provided for? It's kind of useless if you need to update the firmware or are putting the drive into a laptop.
