I have my Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB for a while now and I had Windows 7 installed on it for a good while since I bought it. But about a month ago I decided to re install the OS due to it working slow and stuttering randomly. From that point I was not able to install any Windows OS on that drive and I had to use my backup HDD for the OS. When I try to install Windows 7 on it ,it gives me an error but any linux distro installs on it fine.
I have updated my amd 970 chipset so that should not be the problem.
Here is a screenshot of Samsung Magician:

and here is CrystalDiskMark:

and then there is the Samsung Performance Benchmark which shows that everything is ok:

But when I try to install any game from steam on the drive it keeps telling me " busy writing to disk" ever few seconds

hey PaulNz, Samsung SSD 840 EVO Performance Restoration Software does more than update the firmware, its not the same as just the firmware update.

Try running ATTO so it will tell you which driver it's using. Benchmark with ATTO also. Just noticed you were running 50mb benchmark, skip that only do the 1gb file (which you also did too, just saying the 50mb is a useless one)

are you using a southbridge port (ports 1-4) or a controller's ports (5+) on your motherboard to plug this drive into?

Do you have the intel rapid storage technology OR the intel smart response installed on your system?

Do you have Indexing service turned off on the SSD? Are you low on RAM and have the SSD as the page file source?
