Hello all, I'm having a major problem with the 120GB version of this SSD.
I've given it power and tried multiple SATA data cables on it, but no matter what, the drive will not appear in the bios as a boot device, nor does it come up in windows under the disk management. It isn't even detected by the Samsung magician software that came with it, which I believe is used for its optimisation.
I've tried leaving the power off for about 10 minutes, a variety of SATA modes, and even updating the motherboard (MSI Gaming 5 Z97) - but nothing seems to be working. I've also tested all of the data ports on the motherboard.
Should I contact Samsung and get a replacement? Or am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance.

Hey there, Bladesy!

I'd recommend you to check and see if you actually have those SATA ports enabled in BIOS. Before contacting the manufacturer, I'd suggest you to try the solid-state drive on another computer and see if it will get properly detected there. If it does, the issue is somewhere else in your computer rather than the drive itself. Do you have another HDD plugged there?
I'd also try resetting BIOS, it would get your mobo settings back to factory defaults, so you'd need to re-configure them afterwards. Here's a tutorial with several methods how to perform this reset: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS

However, if the SSD is not recognized anywhere, you should definitely contact their customer support and send an RMA...

Thank you both very much, I tried out enabling the hot-plugging first - but It didn't seem to work. I thought that I had reset the BIOS by updating it, but it wasn't the case - I took out the battery for a while and when I reinserted it, the drive was there.
Thanks again.

Hey there, vanniko63!

I'd strongly recommend you to run some diagnostics on the SSD using one of these third-party testing utilities: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1926483/ssd-diagnostic-tools.html
I'd also suggest you to try using a different SATa cable and SATA port with the SSD that's not recognized by the system. Another thing you could try is plugging the SSD in a different computer and see if it will be detected properly there.

Have you tried any of the suggested solutions to @Bladesy?

i got a return to manufacturer, from samsung , so they are honoring warranty, since i have your attention , my set up has been 2 ssd,s in raid o 500gb each both samsung 840,s . my board does have a pci mini ssd which i purchased a 128gb ,mini .and seems to work . so going forward on new build . will a single or even raid o two mins , be alright to run , or sinel 1 t min or single 1t ssd ,
given all these options what would be best as far as performance , i do need room since this build will be water cooled , which i am in process, since i now have it running i can move forward ,so which direction ,for a water cooled gaming rig .
