Samsung 850 EVO SSD migration issue

Hi there

I recently bought myself the Samsung 850 EVO SSD and used the Samsung Data Migration Software to migrate everything. Restarting, I changed the boot drive to be the SSD but got a funny looking log in screen that lead to a black screen.

The old HDD was still in and now somehow it acts as if the OS is running off the SSD even though it's running off the old HDD (unless it only seems so).

I am unable to format the SSD as Windows thinks I am using that disk (whether I'm booting off the HDD or the SSD).

I am not looking forward to doing a fresh install.

P.S. I also read something about changing something in the boot manager so that the SSD is seen as drive C: or something, but I'm not 100% clear on that.

Migration programs, even the somewhat superior Samsung one, are so often riddled with complications. You either have the problem straight away or you run into it down the line; drivers stop working, files go missing etc. In the end, and as most people will advise, just bite the bullet and do a fresh install of the OS on the SSD. Make sure you disconnect the hard disk when doing so. It will save you time in the long run.

This is immensely frustrating. Ditched optical drives with my new chassis and build and for some reason creating a bootable USB drive is proving to be troublesome.

If in the end the only thing I can do is to format, I'll find a way to do so, even if that means sitting with an old optical drive on my lap with the box open.
