Hi guys,

I do a lot of 3D work and recently purchased a Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500GB. These programs include 3dsmax/maya, zbrush, photoshop. My save files are pretty large ranging from 250mb-500mb+. If I'm constantly saving files and iterations won't this degrade my SSD rather fast due to it having to write all the time? If I move save files to my HDD I lose the purpose of using one for its speed. Also should I move my scratch disk to my HDD instead? I searched the forums on scratch disk and there were lots of old threads with divided opinions on it. I was wondering how the newer SSDs would fair.

Thanks.

SSD's do degrade with frequent reads and writes but it shouldn't be a big factor. You will still get years of performance out of it. For example the EVO vs the PRO. The only real noticeable difference between the two is longevity. Samsung Magician has a lot of options to extend the life of your SSD while still retaining performance. One thing is to disable indexing. You should be fine with the EVO but all drives die eventually. Hopefully I answered your question.
