So instead of buying a 1TB external SSD, I made my own.

Samsung 860 EVO 1TB, shoved into an External Enclosure using USB. (

I thought since now-a-days, companies are soldering the USB directly to the drive board, I'd make my own so when I retire the SSD from its work, I can shove it into a laptop.

Anyhow, I use it to run Virtual Machines, the issue is.. it seems to randomly (maybe only when running 3 VM's at once, 2 right now seems fine..) disconnect and I get the well known error of 'USB as malfunctioned' error.

I'm beginning to assume my enclosure is..
1: Old. (1-2 years)
2: Not supporting the speed. (3.0 - 3.1)
3: There's not enough power going to the drive. (There should be at least 500mA to 1A, maybe need Y cable?)
4: Samsung 860 EVO isn't meant to be doing this. (Fuuuuh)
5: Something I've yet to discover / don't know about. (Fuuuuuuuh)
6: All of the above. (

Can anyone explain what's going on? :c
