I had this question in another link but it kinda got lost in conversation being it wasn't the main question,so i just made another thread for it hoping i could get some help as i can not find anything through google on the problem.
I have a samsung 950 pro M.2 on an Asrock extreme 6/3.1 usb mobo. The mobo has an ULTRA M.2 SLOT,which supposedly can run the 32 Gbps.I have the drivers installed for NVMe controller and 3/4 gen pci controller(supposedly the 32 gps) and the only way i found to verify the speed is in Samsung Magician...it says i have the NVMe controller and the 3/4 generation controller, but it also says the link speed is 10 Gbps and the max is 10 Gbps, when i thought this slot was supposed to give me 32 Gbps....also it says the link width current is x4,is that referring to the pci slot ratio? because when i look in the mobo manual it says that if the ultra m.2 slot is used, the pci 2 slot(where i have a asus strix 980 ti vid card) will go down from x16 to x8.But it says the ULTRA M.2 slot should not change.
Is it possible magician is not reading it right? Is there another way to get a reading on that link speed for the 950 pro?Can i fix this to get the 32 Gbps?I have a lot of head scratching over here.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
To add,the only slots im using are the 950 pro and the asus strix 980 ti in the pci 2 slot.I have links to pics of magician's readings below....

mine reads the same - i've got the 950 in an asus hyper M.2 expansion card in a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot, and i wondered the same as you - but in looking at reviews that posted shots of the samsung magician benchmarks, all showed the same 10 Gbps link speed with max speed of 10 Gbps, and never saw a reviewer note anything about it

What a drive performs at and what slots are rated at is different.
None of these drives are the new sliced toast. A lot of the marketing sites should have their asses kicked for misleading "marketing"!

Thanks for the replies guys,ya ralph at least i know im not the only on with the problem. Also i tried that parkdale benchmark,i didnt see anything there for the connection speed, but i found it interesting running the benchmarks.I also have an 840 evo and an 850 evo in my comp,i ran all 3 on the bench and actually the 950 pro came in slower than the3 other 2.
I had about 1200 mbps on the 950,and the 840 and 850 came in about 1400,and being those are a lesser SSD capability wise, also the fact that they are on sata 3 connection which is 6 Gbps, now im totally dumbfounded.
Think youre right about the marketing thing TbsToy,tehy say anything to sell.

I too see the Samsung Magician software recognizing my Asus Sabertooth x99 m.2 slot with Samsung NVMe 512gb m.2 SSD as 10Gbps link speed.

I'd like to mention that Samsung Magician doesn't see the Samsung NVMe 512gb SSD as a Samsung device and I have the Samsung NVMe driver installed, so I'll just say my confidence is low for Samsung Magician's information on NVMe. However, as a benchmark I suppose it's useful.

AIDA64, under Devices, Samsung NVMe SSD Controller, reports Bus Type as PCI Express 3.0 x4. I'll go with AIDA64 reported configuration as being accurate.

k let's recap...

32Mb/s = 4GB/s = 4096 MB/s

Samsung 950 spec sheet
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/ssd950pro/specifications.html

Theoretically speaking the 512GB 950 Pro (I believe that's saw in the pic) has:

Read: 19.5Gb/s -ish
Write: 11.7Gb/s-sh

ASRock Etreme6/3.1
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme63.1/index.us.asp

This board does not have a PLX chip (to my knowledge) so the graphics card might be knocking it down to a lower state from time to time depending on what the graphics card is doing... have you tried something like Passmark performance test for a longer sustained read/write? I don't have another drive fast enough for it to read/write too but this software with what taskmanager displayed confirmed my 256 was operating slightly above its rated specs.

I have the 256 GB 950 in an ASRock Extreme9 it too states the 10Gb/s link speed but will actually read around the 2.2~2.25 GB/s (17.6Gb/s) mark. Mine will not write faster than about 960~970 MB/s so I can't say for write above 10GB/s

Thank you sir for the reply, sorry, i havent ben on here in a bit cause of the holidays, but when i did do the test for read /write i had nothing running.i stopped trying to figure it out,it got annoying. .the comp IS fast as hell, and im very happy with it..i just thought it would be nice to se those 32 GBPS they advertised,i could have prolly got off just saving 200 buks and getting an 850 pro....but live and learn..HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Hello

I came across your thread because I was having issues with a Samsung Pro 950 256GB M.2 on an Asus X99-DELUXE/U3.1 where I was getting much slower speeds (not the 32gbps but max bandwidth in Samsung Magician was half). I worked out I was getting PCI-E 2.0 speeds even though I should be getting PCI-E 3.0 speeds. I tried all sorts of settings in the UEFI to no avail then I found the solution - OVERCLOCKING!

I was using an XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) for the Corsair Dominators - as soon as I set my memory back to the stock speed, I got the full 32gbps in Magician :)

Worth baring in mind for anyone else who has this issue.

Oh and bizarely when I used AIDA64 like in the previous posts I also got PCI-E 3.0 for the controller even though it wasn't running at that! So Samsung Magician would appear to have been right?
