Hey
I'm using the Samsung 950 pro NVME 250gb and getting slow read/write speeds,

http://i.imgur.com/gLDMrtA.png
Read: 750mb/s
Write: 666mb/s

My setup is:
MSI Z97 Gaming 3
Intel I7 4790k
Fractal Design 750w Integra
Gigabyte 970 G1

I have all the samsung drivers, motherboard drivers and BIOS is updated,
windows installed in UEFI but also tried as legacy,(no difference)
No idea what could be the cause but would love to find out.
Is it my motherboard not supporting a M.2 with that speed and a graphicscard at the same time?

some motherboard quick info

Slots

• 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E2, supports x16 speed)
• 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (PCI_E4, supports x4 speed)*
• 2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots
• 3 x PCI slots
* The PCIe x1 slots (PCI_E1, PCI_E3) will be unavailable when installing an expansion card in the PCI_E4 slot.

On-Board SATA

• Intel Z97 Express Chipset
- 6 x SATA 6Gb/s ports (SATA1~6)
- 1 x M.2 port*
- M.2 port supports M.2 SATA 6Gb/s module
- M.2 port supports M.2 PCIe module up to 10Gb/s speed**
- M.2 port supports 4.2cm/ 6cm/ 8cm length module
- Supports RAID 0, RAID1, RAID 5 and RAID 10***
- Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology, Intel® Rapid Start Technology and Intel® Smart Connect Technology****

* The SATA5 and SATA6 ports will be unavailable when installing a module in the M.2 port.

** M.2 PCIe interface only supports UEFI option ROM, NOT support legacy option ROM.
*** M.2 PCIe interface does not support RAID 0, RAID1, RAID 5 and RAID 10.
**** Supports Intel Core processors on Windows 7 and Windows 8/ 8.1

Solution
As Johnny said, it's a limitation of the Z97 chipset which can only do PCIe 2.0 x2 bandwidth to the M.2 port. If you want full speed with that mainboard you would have to purchase an M.2 to PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter card. Or you could upgrade to a Z170 board with new CPU and DDR4 RAM...

You may not be getting the drive's top speed, but it's still faster than any SATA SSD.
Hello,

I think main problem is you have MB which is supporting only M.2 PCIe 10Gb/s (2.0x2). To support full speed of Samsung 950 Pro you need Ultra M.2 - PCIe 3.0x4.
You can use the adapter (card) from PCIe 3.0x4 to M.2 (PCIE3.0x4) and put it to your PCIe 2.0x4. It will improve speed almost 2 times, but it will not reach maximum of the 950 Pro. To upgrade to full speed you need ideally Z170 or X99 MB.

Kind Regards
Radek

What does Samsung Magician (You are using it, right? If not, start now!) say the link speed and width is?

Download Magician from here. Click on the Manuals and Downloads section, then click See More. The first one is only the manual, so make sure you download the actual Magician software (17.34MB).

"Is it my motherboard not supporting a M.2 with that speed and a graphics card at the same time?"

You question is spot on! The M.2 header on your motherboard is rated at 10Gb/s which makes it an M.2 2.0 x 4 header. The 950 Pro requires an M.2 3.0 x 4 header for optimal performance. Luckily the 950 Pro is backwards compatible and will work in your motherboards M.2 header but at reduced performance.

Magician sais:
Link speed current : 5Gbs, Max 10Gbs
Link width Current : x2, Max x4
