Hello All,

I recently purchased a Samnsung Syncmaster 950B to build a computer for my cousin. All went well until I went to fire it up for the first time. The monitor did not display any data (Green Power LED just blinks). I double checked everything and all seemed well. So I unplug the connector from the Video Card (Radeon 9700 Pro) and noticed that there were only 13 prongs. This seemed odd, as any CRT that I know of has 15 prongs. I inspected it further and it appears as if none were broken off (just seems like none where put there to begin with). So I tried again to get the monitor to work and I noticed that when hard booting and pressing the power switchon the case, the monitors LED just blinks, however, if I press the reset button on the case the monitor will work. (LED stays on constant and displays data). Now I can't give my cousing a computer telling her everytime she turns on the PC to press reset as this seems rediculous. Anyone know what the problem could be? Is there supposed to be 13 prongs and could this be the problem. I have emailed Samsung support but no word back yet? Also, could it be the Radeon card? I don't see how as it does display content on the screen, but only after pressing reset. I duplicated this so many times and I have never seen this before. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

iLLz

I'm having this exact same problem with a system I just built and I'm using a radeon 9700 pro also. System working great, but to "wake" the monitor I've got to boot then reset the system. Can't wake it from a cold startup.

I'm using a dell trinitron monitor, asus p4p800 motherboard, and radeon 9700 pro. I've posted on another forum too so hopefully someone will add some insight. What motherboard are you running on your system? I was thinking maybe my bios might need an upgrade.

Alaska,

How is it going? I am using an Asus P4P800S motherboard with the latest BIOS. The thought had crossed my mind that it could be a mobo issue. I wonder if it could just be using the Radeon 9700 Pro in these particular Mobo's. Whatever the case maybe, i'll keep you posted if I find anything out that can help. Thanks again for posting and if you could come accross anything let me know.

Illz, I've come across a few posts on other forums that said it could be a power supply problem. The power supply might not have enough juice to initialize everything. My case came with a 350w pretty generic power supply. I don't think I am maxing out the supply, but maybe it's just really weak in the area it needs on startup.

I tried looking around asus' site to find out what the power requirements were for the p4p800 but didn't come across anything yet.

Alaska,

Interesting concept. The case I used is an Antec SX630II and it came with a SmartPower 300W PSU. I know the Radeon requires at least that but I thought it wouldn't be a problem. The PC was built by me for my cousin. I personally have an Antec Plus 660AMG that came with a TruePower 330W PSU and I have no problem with it, but I also use an Intel D845PEBT2 with that. Thanks for all the info, I think the PSU would have been my last line against that problem. Again, thanks for all your help. Also, what other forum have you posted this too, they seem to be of some help. I would like to keep it in mind in case of future problems.

Thanks,
