I am finally deciding to upgrade to an SSD to hopefully run some games and Windows 10 OS. Was wondering if this SSD is compatible with my motherboard ASRock Z77Pro (fairly old...)

That board doesn't have any M.2 port. Unless you buy an expansion card for one you won't be able to install it.

You can buy a SATA SSD tho for cheaper and more space. Like the Crucial MX500 500GB and trust me when I say that the difference in loading time comparing an NVME and SATA SSD is like a few seconds.

Your board has no M.2 port.
Even in a PCIe adapter, you'd see zero difference over a regular SATA III SSD.

Samsung 860 EVO or Crucial MX500 are the recommended choices.
Save money and headaches.

I found a samsung 860 EVO, assuming that will perform the same? I just hope i have enough room in the case for it

Yeah the samsung 860 evo is better. As for the place in your case you know you can just slap an ssd anywhere really. If it doesn't move or fall down it's ok. I saw systems with dangling ssd's. not that I recommend it but if you have no choice.

Even with an adapter port, it would likely not be bootable...

Stick with SATA...

I'll pay $5 more for Samsung, but, not $20....; 2 TB Crucial MX500 are $225, and, 500 GB units are $65... (1 TB units are hard to come by now, a shortage perhaps)
