Hey!

I have Gigabyte H170-HD3 and I want to know if Samsung 970 EVO is compatibility with my motherboard.

I saw this

but how can I install this? my CPU cooler won't block it or something?

also, what is the difference between 970 to this?

longer life? faster? meme? cheaper?

Solution
It will work, that is an M.2 slot designed for a drive like the 970Pro.

The cooler won't block it but you would probably want to install it first then the cooler depending on which cooler you have.

The difference is one is a NVMe drive that uses the M.2 slot and the other is a 2.5" SATA drive. The M.2 drive is vastly faster. First is the interface. SATA gen III is limited to 6Gbps but also has only AHCI. It was never truly designed for SSD drives. NVMe was designed for solid state and goes up to, as your board shows, 32Gbps.

The 970 NVMe has read/write of up to 3500/2700 MB/s while the SSD, an 860 Pro, can hit 560/530 MB/s. The 2.5" is obviously cheaper. The life will probably be similar for both drives.

"designed for a drive like the 970Pro"
only for the Pro? or EVO too?
also after install it on my motherboard do I need more thing to do? like drivers or play with bios?
my cooler going to be " PURE ROCK SLIM"

I meant Evo but it will work with any M.2 drive. I just mean that that M.2 slot on your board is designed for a NVMe drive.

Depending on the version of Windows you install, I assume 10, it might need drivers. 10 should install and see the drive like a normal drive. Anything older (7/8) will probably require drivers to see the drive.

You shouldn''t have to do anything in the BIOS except set boot priority to the 970.

alright, thanks! you help me a lot
