I don't know much about pc builds started a build for my son will the 970 Evo plus be compatible with Asus prime 690 pro i7 12700k, and 32gb Kingston fury.

There all the parts I have at the minute, it's for my son for gaming tbh, won them parts in a comp but looking at a 3060 GPU, for the time being due to prices right now. Plus a 250 gb for operating system. Could you advise me on what watt CPU I would need plz.

It is not clear to me if you now have a i7-12700K which is wonderful, or if you need to buy a cpu in which case, even a i5-12600K would still be about as good as it gets.

When you say watt(vs. what) perhaps you mean psu.

I would buy some 20% stronger to allow for a gpu upgrade.

Note that the K suffix processors come with integrated graphics to get you started.
Finding a good graphics card at < 2x msrp is tough these days.
