[SOLVED] Samsung 980 MZ-V8V1T0BW - what does the BW mean?

I'm looking to switch from my 1TB HDD to a new SSD, and I've found a good deal for a 1TB NVMe Samsung 980 MZ-V8V1T0BW for 79,99 Euros, or 90,53 Dollars.

I've looked at the supported M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD list for my motherboard, a Gigabyte B450 Gaming X, and in it the 980 MZ-V8V1T0 is named, but without the 'BW'.

What does the BW mean, and, most importantly, does it make any difference in terms of compatibility? I just wanna make sure so I don't make the same mistake I made previously.

Thanks a lot in advance!

It stands for Bytes Writen, New drive hence: 0BW.

Just speculation.

Strongly recommended, I have one similar and it's an awesome little drive to use for C:\Drive, so far no problems yet, it's super fast and runs cool.

I thought: MZ-V8V1T0BW : Model Z, Version 8, 1 Terrabyte free space, 0 Bytes Writen.

No it doesn't make compatibility difference as far as I know, if you have an NVMe slot then it will work by default, I had my thoughts just like you when I looked at my compatibility list in the motherboard page when I first thought about purchasing one.

Wow for 79.99, hope for your sake it's not a typo, cause mine cost me 200+ EURO's just a few months back.

The 980, 980 Pro, and 970 EVO Plus all end in "BW".

The "980 Pro with heatsink" ends in "CW.

So possibly it means 'without heatsink'.
Other than that....just internal Samsung part numbering.

Therefore I'm wondering whether the model code reflects different warranty terms.
Both indicate 5 years.

"Warranty Information for MZ-V8V1T0B/AM - Parts : 60 months, Labor : 60 months"
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/warranty/MZ-V8V1T0B/AM
----------------
MZ-V8V1T0BW
"Warranty 5-Year Limited Warranty or 600 TBW Limited Warranty"
https://www.samsung.com/sg/memory-storage/nvme-ssd/980-1tb-nvme-pcie-gen-3-mz-v8v1t0bw/

The AM does not specifically indicate a TBW value.
