Question Samsung 980 Pro 1Tb not detecting gen 4 and Performance Issue

Hello, Today I got my new Samsung 980 Pro SSD, and it's not working up to the mark. , I am also facing the issue.


What to do? Suggest it to me, guys.

My SSD serial number is different on the box, and in the Samsung Magician software, it is showing differently.

It shows "genuine" next to the serial number.

Even i am getting the message on the Samsung Magic Tool that it is recommended to connect PCIe Gen 4.0 for optional speed.

I am getting these results after testing.

I am not getting their performance up to mark.

I do not know much about this. I am using the HP Pavillion 15 dk-0046tx gaming laptop.
I am attaching the specification.
I had a pre-installed 256GB SSD that came with the laptop, so I replaced that SSD with a 1tb Samsung 980 Pro.

1. You're plugging a 4.0 drive into a 3.0 port.
2. You will never ever notice the difference either way.

Your motherboard is the limiting factor.
The drive is probably fine.

Storage and performance, and thinking about GTA V online . Not more than that.

Random access times is what you want in games in terms of performance. All ssds share similar times whether it's sata, pcie 3 or 4.

As for storage, well depends what you do there. If you copy or transfer large files a lot then you would benefit pcie 4 transfer speeds. If not then don't worry about it.

Keep the ssd. If you ever upgrade laptop or build a desktop computer can always repurpose it.

Yes, it is my primary SSD; I installed Windows 10 on it.

An user can transfer files through ethernet, in which case he would be limited by his ethernet speed, which can be 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps ( for a max 1000 MB/s), or through USB 3.0 (which is 400 MB/s for gen 1 or 800 MB/s for gen 2) or through Thunderbolt (10 Gbps, 20 Gbps or 40 Gbps). Someone could transfer with PCIe 4 speeds only from one NVMe drive to another NVMe (both being PCIe 4.0) within the same computer, which isn't a common usage for most people.

That's good Windows is installed on it. That is where the performance comes from, not just having games installed on an ssd but some have mechanical drive for the OS then game on ssd. I put that to personal budget circumstances mostly but it is wrong way to go about if it can be helped.

I agree with you and that was one of my queries. Which i assumed may or may not be and not to worry about it if this wasn't a regular thing.
