News Samsung 980 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD Dips To 5 Cents Per GB

That's all fine....BUT: Didn't recently tomsharware report on Puget Systems cutting all of the Samsung 980/990 pro SSDs from their professional worksatations because of pathological degradation?
Has in the meantime that problem been reliably solved and was that confirmed by independent testing?

Otherwise it would be not wise to touch these drives with a pole....

The article you speak of was in January

Tom's also printed a new article with the firmware fix less than a month later; this is a non-issue and a great deal!

And right in this article they address your concern as well
"The Samsung 980 Pro, like any other piece of computer hardware, has had its issues. However, Samsung promptly released a firmware update to fix the problems, so there's nothing to worry about."

I picked this up last week at Best Buy. It's crazy because I remember I bought the 1TB version for my PS5 in 2021 for nearly $200. The really sucky part is that I didn't really need it since I barely used my PS5.

"The Samsung 980 Pro 2TB (MZ-V8P2T0B/AM) typically retails for $139.14 on Amazon, but the speedy SSD is available for $99.99 for a limited time."

Its 192,95€(around 200$) on Amazon Europe now.

I ordered it for around 103 euro today (after prime deal and 10 euro off for over 50). Most european amazon's its between 103 and 120 euro.

Thanks a lot. Has the effect of the firmware update been independently tested?

I needed a new M.2 SSD last weekend. I did a search on Amazon for 1TB ones and I saw this drive. There was a link to the 2TB version, when I saw that it was $99, I bought it. BTW mine was manufactured in May 2023 and had the latest firmware, so it is not suppose to have the degradation issues. Yesterday I looked back on Amazon and the drive was $121.

I put it in a B650E-F Asus Strix MB with a Ryzen 9 7900X (MC Combo deal.) It is so fast that when I installed drivers from a USB stick, I never saw it work, there was no delay at all! So, I tried it again assuming it failed. Same thing. I had started with the LAN drivers to get me online. I couldn't connect before and now I can. PCIe 4.0 with this drive is Impressive!
