Hey does anyone here have this? It seems to be a pretty popular monitor, and yet there still is no reviews out for some reason. I'm curious, is it any good? Thanks.

I was looking at that monitor as well, on paper it should be a really nice monitor. I also went searching for reviews, but the internet is just filled with spam. :/

Good choice. I've read up quite a bit on this monitor and it looks like I'll be upgrading to this. I'm currently using a Samsung 753DF.

If you have a Best Buy near you they are selling the 997DF for $199.00.

Damn my monitor is about to die guys. help! It's got a nasty flicker...has anyone got the 997 yet? My monitor is th gateway vx700...damn it's hurting my eyes...🙁

All my Samsung monitors were over 2 years old, all were better than anything else I've had to compare them to. I've had over 1000 systems.

Well I just ordered one...I'll tell you guys how it turns out since there is like no imformation on this...

I read all the reviews of this monitor and they were good so I went ahead to get it to replace my 6 year old gateway vx700. I have to say I am much disappointed with the image quality. How do you owners have yours setup? I've fiddled around with it and the image just doesn't seem very good. Things seems grainy and a bit hazy. The image also seems to flicker as well. I'm running at the recommended settings of 1280x1024@85Htz. Also in games unless I run it at that, the screen is missized.

The viewsonic A90F+ seems to look better wtf?

Ok I set it up...the image quality blows. Stay away from this thing at all costs. It's sad a brand new model can't outdo a 6 year old one. There is a anti-glare sticker underneath the pane of glass that has air bubbles in it so the image is ripply at times.

Guess I'll probably just use my flickering one until I can get enough for a NEC. It's no wonder samsung use cheap components and it shows.
Edited by Reck2 on 09/01/04 05:33 PM.

Sounds like you got a damaged one. As for the screen being mis-sized, you have to set the size for each resolution once, it has memory to remember those settings when the resolution changes. I've had to do that with ALL my monitors, surprized you haven't with your VX700.

Just picked up a Samsung SyncMaster 997df at Best Buy yesterday (200$ with 20$ mail in rebate and 3 year service plan) and upgraded from a 17inc Dell E770 that's prob 5 years old or so. It's very nice so far from what I can see, almost as big as my TV. Takes up a little more amount of space than the Dell. Was playing Call of Duty in 1600x1200 and it looked crisp. Yah mine came with some bending at the bottom of the screen but fooling around with the monitor options got it to where I like it now. It also comes with software to change profiles like if you want it for gaming or browsing the internet, or doing work with photography. Running at 1280x1024@85hz atm and it looks a lot better (rather than at 60hz). I'll report back if I have any problems or whatnot.

Well it would appear as though the flickering is due to my old video card. I hooked it up to a a90f+ and it flickered on that too. Now I'm back to using my VX700 and it looks just so much better. Everything is nice and crisp. I loaded up Soldier Of Fortune 2 on the 997 and the colors were terrible compared to my old one. I've noticed that it displays some shades of dark as being brown as well. In GTA where everything in the distance was smooth on my vx700, it ws grainy and undefined on the 997. No ammount of setting change could fix it.

Aside from my video card causing everything to flicker, I think it's working fine, it's just a very bad monitor. Mike I suggest you return this pos...the A90f+ can still be bought from best buy for 200. Though that model has a distortion on the bottom of the screen. It's still much better. I thought shadow masks were good after using the a90f+ for a few months then using an aperture grille then going back to shadow masks I realize shadow mask are freaking crap and they all suffer from that distortion beneath the screen. Aperture grilles own shadow mask, although the a90F+ is decent. I think that shadow masks doing text better is bs as well. It's just not as crisp on shadow masks. The only thing shadow masks have going for them is they are easier on the eyes. I'm going to save for the NEC FE991, I've heard great thing about NECs. I believe my own vx700 is based on a Dimatron tube which I think is made by NEC. So my monitor actually still works, it's just the video card. I see why NEC gets so much praise now...6 years of use and still working, though it's probably on it's last few months.

The problem with viewsonic now though is that they freaking cut the waranties down to one year which makes me very very suspicious.

I hear a few people sqawking at the AnandTech forum and the OCforums and one guy said to avoid this POS like the plaque and trust me he's right. Sorry for the rant but steer away from this thing.

I have a Samsung 957mb 19" and it's great. The Picture quality & colour is at least on par with the ridiculously expensive Sony 17" trinitron thing I had before, even though it's shadow mask Vs the sony's Aperture grille. The Samsung you got is obviously the black sheep of the family!

I believe they (957mb) retail for a bit over US$200 or so. (I'm in the UK and it cost me ~£155)
