So does adaptive sync on this monitor work with Nvida cards (gtx 1070)? Does adaptive sync work with nvidia in general because on their website they say they are compatible with adaptive sync but I thought adaptive sync was freesync.
That monitor is only compatible with FreeSync. You need an AMD GPU to take advantage of that.
FreeSync and G-Sync are not intercompatible and you will not see monitors that support both.
So Adaptive Vsync is not the same as Adaptive Sync?

No. Adaptive Sync is either AMD FreeSync or Nvidia G-Sync.
Adaptive Vsync is an Nvidia feature that can be turned on to only enable Vsync when the GPU exceeds the monitor's refresh rate(to prevent tearing) and disable it when the GPU goes under the refresh rate(to prevent stutter and input lag). It's an inteligent and worth using solution, but not nearly as awesome as Adaptive Sync.
