I was curious, I bought this 27'' samsung CFG70 144 hrz..etc and it's freesync has two options, one is standard and a range 90-144 and then "ultimate engine" with range 70-144.

Are there any negative effects to having it on ultimate? like color or brightness? it seems perfectly normal to me.

Was just curious the difference other than the reported to monitor refresh rates.

after reading and reading, the only thing it does is in most games, causes flickering. Best to leave it on Standard mode.

Solution
From what I understand, the "ultimate engine" setting would be the better option, since it allows the maximum FreeSync range to be over double the minimum, allowing FreeSync to continue operating below that minimum range by using AMD's Low Framerate Compensation, which effectively refreshes the screen twice or more for every frame to keep FreeSync active even at low framerates. Apparently, the CFG70 monitors initially only shipped with support for FreeSync in the 90-144Hz range, but they added an option to expand that down to 70Hz shortly after launch for that very reason.

I recently read a very detailed review on the 24 inch version of this monitor, which you can find here...

The FreeSync section is about 3/4 of the way down the page. While I suspect that the review should mostly hold true for the 27" version as well, keep in mind that there could be some differences.

Solution
I discovered that the "ultimate engine" while lowering the bottom range of refresh rate to trigger the free sync also causes flickering in some games (the one I play actually).

So leaving it on the standard engine is best all around.

Sorry for resurrecting a solved thread ... but I have something to add ...

If you use the ultimate engine (70-144hz) Freesync range you will still get tearing when FPS is lower than 70.
This is because the LFC is not activated. You can see this tearing with AMD Windmill Demo which runs at 60 fps.

To activate the LFC, use CRU and change the vertical range to 55-144hz ..
Why 55 ? Its because LFC needs the monitor Freesync range to be min rate x 2.5 >= max Freesync rate.
144 / 2.5 = 57.5 just use 55.

I have been using this mods and it runs much better now ...

how did you do it? Please tell me, i can't change mine. Radeon settings says i still have 70-144hz even though i changed it through cru.

I think Radeon changed that to default when you reinstall the driver...
Not sure if Radeon report is correct ... you need to try playing games at fps lower than FS range to be sure ...
