my samsung syncmaster594mg crt monitor display darkens and lightens continually and goes to black

Could be defective lead or plug -- or socket on computer. Obviously also waggle the cable to see if problem appears/disappears.

If this model has a swappable signal lead try that.

Otherwise it may be time to think flatscreen.
