Question Samsung Evo 870 SSD does not start after shutdown...but starts up fine an hour later ?

The problem: Computer runs fine. I shutdown the computer. Computer shuts down. Go back to turn on the computer right after give or take 10 seconds for all the fans to stop but SSD doesn't show up in BIOS. (Also same if I leave it off for 20 minutes, SSD not detected, goes back into BIOS). BIOS doesn't detect the SSD either. Leave the computer off for about an hour or so. Starts right up like nothing ever happened. Works with restart as well.

Checked for bad sectors with CrystalDiskinfo as well as Samsung Magic Magician and all is fine.

I bought two of the exact same ones from Amazon. One for the desktop and one for the laptop.

SSD#1 = not working
SSD#2 = working

I format the SSD#1 and install a fresh copy of W10 and still the same thing. I take my other SSD#2, I format that drive as well and install a new copy of Win10 and swap it to my desktop and that SSD#2 works perfectly. I then take SSD#1 and put it in my laptop, and now that laptop is having the same problem.

Question: Am I doing something wrong? Do SSDs have settings? How can I fix this problem. It's driving me nuts.

Thanks.

The write endurance for an 870 Evo 500GB is 120TB, which is significantly more than the 5.3TB it is showing. Since that drive only came out in 2021, and has a 5 year warranty, you are without a doubt still within warranty (as long as you haven't opened it before). I would go ahead and start a warranty claim. Ensure that you zero the drive prior to sending it back.

seems to me a heat related issue.. i believe the chips aren't soldered adequately. due to that issue alone, it creates extra heat within the circuit.

I would RMA it myself.. unless you'd want to try baking it first to try and get the chips to seat/re-seat properly.
