Running windows-7 4 pro
I have 2 samsung EVO installed an 850 and 860

Windows is seeing chs mismatch errors between cylinder and head count.
cylinders 255 headcount 240

I have emptied then recreated partions using parted on linux but when I
restart windows the mismatch re-occurs.

The latest magician refuses to install so I found a very old version
but that doesnt even recognise a second device - I cant find any other
versions of magician online than those.

Can anone suggest what is causing this missmatch - could it be something
in the SSD itself - (both of them)? they are not heavily used for writing.

Is there a virus that does this maybe (I cant find anything and much older
versions of windows from my backups dont cure it whn I do a complete re-install)

Any ideas on this please?

chs is cylinders, headers, sectors - which is hdd related, not really ssd.
disk geometry error, not a lot of new info on that. I found a relic from toms past, 2005 post but not overly helpful or understandable.

i can find hints it could be bad bios settings for configuring the disks or partitioning disks

I first noticed the issue when the animated dots on windows startup stopped lining up.

Any software that reports this info shows it.

It must be an SSD issue because the same machine has a hard drive and nothing affected that - just the 2 ssd's

The cylinder count is wrong reflecting the incorrect head geometry.

This is a serious issue as it will prevent restoration of data from backup software that reports it as an error as any decent backup software will recognise geometry. (I have tried )

Also data recovery doesnt work correctly even if it has geometry manipulation features.

Repartitioning and adjusting the geometry with low level software
appears to work but on restarting windows it returns to the faulty
condition.

I will have to try moving the SSD's to a linux machine.

Samsung magician may be the issue - the latest version still refuses to install no matter what I do.
