Samsung Galaxy Note 3 weak signal strength compared to other devices

At home we have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and a Google Nexus 5. We both connect to the same wireless network broadcasted by a EnGenius 2.4GHz Wireless-N Multi-Functional AP.

The Note 3 has problems in connecting to the wireless network. For example

    1. If I keep the phones together, the Note 3 will always have a weaker signal strength than the signal strength of the connection between the router and the Nexus 5.
    2. In certain locations of the house, the Note 3 has no connection, whereas the Nexus 5 does have a connection (think 2 or 3 bars out of the possible 5 bars).

I tried to optimize the channel selection on the router using inSSIDer. inSSIDer suggested to use channel 6, which indeed seemed to improve the signal strength to the Note 3 the most (I have compared using channel 6 to using other channels). See this figure.

When I examine the settings on the router a bit more, I stumble upon the client list. All three devices in the list are in the same location. I am not completely sure what the Signal(%) column measures, but it seems to be at least some sort of measure for signal strength. What is interesting, is that the laptop and Nexus 5 have a comparable signal strength and that the Note 3 is performing far worse.

In the end, my question is, would anyone know what causes the Note 3 to have such a bad signal strength, while other devices do not seem to have any problems connecting? I hope this is the correct place to ask such a question. Thanks a lot in advance.

There really is little you can do with equipment like this. There are few if any ways to change anything related to the hardware. Some devices have the ability to connect antenna externally but that is very rare.

These type of devices are locked down and do not let you change anything. Even if you were to get root access you can't change much related to the radio power.

Now you may have a power save option on the wireless setting but that generally affect the transmit power not the reception levels. If you have not turned if off I suppose you can try it. I know some phones that only allow you to change this when you are on a power charger.

These type devices are designed for non technical people so all the really good options are not included because it might make their little brains hurt.

Thanks for the reply. I already changed the power safe option for WiFi on the Note 3, but that did not help. Seems there is not so much I can do.
