Samsung Galaxy s2 pin locked itself, Can someone help?

A friend came to me with her phone. A samsung galaxy s2. Told me that it had put a lock on itself without them doing anything. Is there any way that i can recover the data from it?

Go through the reset options using her google account. If she forgot her google account info she's SOL.
