Hi, I've got a brand new Samsung NP540U3C laptop running Windows 8. My touchscreen initially worked fine for a few weeks but now it's very intermittent. Quite frequently I will turn on the laptop and touch isn't recognised at all, and if I go to PC Info it says there is no touch functionality on this computer. A restart always fixes this, but then the next time I turn it on the touch is gone again. Anyone offer any help?

I'm not entirely sure when it started, it could have happened just after an update but I couldn't say for sure.

As for BIOS, how would I go about finding that out? System Information says my BIOS Date is 15/11/2012, and it's type is UEFI but other than that I'm not sure if I have the latest BIOS update or not.

Hey, I have the same laptop running Windows 8.1 and have faced the exact same issue as you since I bought this laptop back in February 2013. Was trying to Google a fix and came across your thread. I was wondering if you ended up finding a solution to this!

Thanks for any help !

Hi, I've not got a solution to it unfortunately. It seems to happen less often these days, but occasionally it still does not respond to touch. A restart still fixes it.

Hey through my Google search, I think I may have come across a solution (I've implemented it and only time will tell if it works).
You open device manager on your laptop, expand the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' group, and then look at the properties for each of the 'Generic USB Hubs'. You want to look at the 'Power' tab in the properties window and find the 'Generic USB Hub' that manages the 'HID-compliant touchscreen's' power. Once you've found the correct 'Generic USB Hub', click the 'Power Management' tab and deselect 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.'
Really hoping this solves the problem.

I found the solution here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-tms/touch-screen-not-working-on-windows-8-samsung/bb5e0f10-1a29-4ad6-9015-862388533c0d
