Have had the M3 running ok on my old Asus usb2 system without a problem.

Have just upgraded the mobo to an Asrock H81m with USB 3 but the Samsung M3 , though recognised by the Device Detector and shown in Device Manager, will not show up in File Explorer, be it connected to a USB3 or a USB2 port ?

I can plug in USB2 and USB3 sticks and it does open them ok in file explorer.

Tried the Samasung M3 on the old USB2 laptop and it opens up and R/W to it ok, but try it in the Asrock again and still nothing.

Did try via the Asrock fast usb program but made no difference.

Help please ..

"I see, good you got it solved. "

Well not quite, seems I had suckered myself.

Had the drive working ok on the old USB2 mobo and had a 2m usb2 extension cable on the drive which I now realise is the cause of the problem with it not working on the new mobo USB3 port.

If I plug the drive into the USB3 port with its original 450mm usb3 cable it works fine at full speed.

Today, got a decent USB3 2m extension cable but even this gave problems and the drive becomes unusable.

Had read tha USB3 was good for 3 mtrs so was just wondering what the limitations on these portable hdds was ?
( did not find any mention on Samsungs site about cable length limitations)
Don't have any other usb devices using much power, could it be a power rather than signal problem ? though don't have an externally powered usb hub to prove the point.
