Samsung Magician 5.0 kills AMD supported RAPID mode

Samsung Magician 5.0 has been out for two weeks now. Was hoping it might enable RAPID mode for more than one Sammy SSD at the same time. Instead, it disables RAPID mode, entirely, for AMD chipsets!

pdf documentation has not been updated fully for 5.0 - it still shows a driver limitation (use Microsoft AHCI driver or AMD's "newest" AHCI driver (which never worked with installing RAPID mode on AM3+ platforms, but might have worked for FM2+). With 4.x versions, secret was to install Microsoft driver (and reboot), enable Rapid mode (and reboot), then switch to AMD AHCI driver (and, you guessed it, reboot again) for that slightly improved performance the AMD AHCI driver provides over the stock MS driver.

With version 5.0, it doesn't matter which AHCI driver you have - the software looks right at the chipset, sees the VID 1002 identifier (meaning AMD made it), and says "No RAPID mode for you!"

Please complain to Samsung about this issue. The original issue raised a stink until a work around (MS AHCI drivers) was discovered.

In light of AMD's upcoming Ryzen platform, it's too early to count AMD out of the race.

If nothing else, Samsung needs to update the documentation, indicating AMD chipset is not supported (at all).

Back to 4.9.7 (and a couple of reboots)

Buy a Crucial SSD with Momentum Cache. You could try it. Does the same thing as Samsung Rapid Share.

Crucial just lists operating systems and particular SSD's as a requirement.
Any guess as to why Samsung would completely blow AMD off on support? Are they really that biased towards Intel? Just slightly pissed as I use a AMD CPU (FX-8350) and I really want to try out this RAPID thing... It just seems odd that a form of fucking storage is denying me a performance boost just cause I use AMD. I mean, my 850 EVO is plenty fast, but if it can be faster...

I just found out about this today. Magician 5.0 is bad.

The 4.9.7 worked without any driver switching on my system.
I e-mailed Samsung about this and told them without that RAPID mode there is very little difference between thier drives and other drives.
So... if they continue lack of AMD support I will just purchase other options.

I went in the Samsung forum and they said e-mail this address support@totalts.com

I have Rapid Mode running on Magician 5, but that is probably because I set it up when I was using the version 4 software?

Here is what Magician is saying:

"Under the current system environment, some functions in Magician CANNOT be run.
If multiple iterations of Read and Write are performed RAPID mode may become inactive due to system internal errors on some of the AMD / AsMedia controller or driver."

What Motherboard? I have an ASUS ROG Crosshiar V. Its asking me to do the update but I wont do it since I downloaded it manually. I uninstalled the old one and installed new one fresh. So you mean you just installed version 5 overtop of version 4?

I believe it asked me to uninstall the previous version before it would install. I am using this motherboard:

You can only have RAPID mode running on one SSD at a time. I have a duplicate Samsung 500GB drive for all my software instrument media.

i just updated to version 5.0. I do get the Vid1002 Indicating some parts of rapid mode cannot be run, but it does say AHCI Mode is Activated, and the benchmark indicates it is working with Read = 2,988, Write = 2,347 / Random Read = 65,673, Random Write - 42,165. I am on AM3+ FX-8350, Asus Sabertooth 990FX Ver1 Mobo.

I have the exact same set up (like exact, FX 8350/Sabertooth 990FX) and I have AHCI mode and rapid mode turned on via Samsung Magician as well on my 1TB 850 EVO

I do however remember having to do uninstall AMD storage drivers in order to update the firmware on my older 500GB 840, then reinstall but this wasn't needed for the current one. Clearly Samsung is rude when it comes to compatibility with AMD systems. It's pretty arrogant considering how many AMD systems are out there

So I fixed my issue. I manually updated my AMD SATA and AsMedia 106x SATA Windows controller drivers via downloading the newer drivers and using Device manager manual update each driver. Both now show 2015 dated drivers. They we're previously 2009 and 2011 era ones respectively. I'm now running 5.0 Magician on my 840Pro in RAPID mode "On" with no issues!

Small update for yall :
I went from AM3+FX 6300 to an AM4+R5 1600, in both case i couldnt start with rapid mode in Magician 5.0 and had to downgrade to 4.9.7.
BUT, version 5.1 is out now and support for Rapid Mode seems back, i just installed the new one and it activated smoothly.
I don't know if this is also working on the FX series but might as well try.

Hello people, i just recently purchased an asus x555qa and ran into the same issue since its ran on a amd chipset also, as well as video card. I associated the error code VID as in video despite the fact that it might me chipset related. My fix was simply install a brand new fresh version of ati video drivers (full instalation) and upgrade the samsung magician as well to 5.1 which is available on their orig website as well and didnt need to go through all of the updating AHCI drivers. It is fully functional on rapid mode on its optimal perfomance. Hope this helps.
