Hello everyone,
So..I usually hook up my monitor to my laptop to have a better viewing experience.
I connect them using a VGA cable, since my monitor doesn't have an HDMI port..Only DVI-D Dual Link and VGA.
So..one day when I woke up I found that my monitor doesn't display any signal, Whenever connect the cable it only shows "Check Signal Cable"..I tried a different cable but nothing worked.
I tried it on a different pc and still nothing worked, I tried updating the firmware but it was up to date..
Note: I noticed that the cable and the port were really hot on the laptop's end but I didn't check the monitor's end..could it have fried the monitor's port?
My monitor is: Samsung SA300 Syncmaster (23 inches)

Thanks and sorry for taking so much of your time.

It's possible. This is why you should test all options possible between the laptop and the display (different I/O cable types, different displays, etc.).
First, on your laptop when you choose display settings, does it still show the Samsung monitor as an option to output the display to? I've never experienced a hot output port from any of my laptops (I'm using one right now). Do you have a desktop PC to test it with a DVI-DVI cable? If not, do you have a friend with a laptop who can test your current VGA-DVI setup? Can you test your current cable setup on an HDTV? Either of those will tell you that you have a dead monitor (whether it's an input port or the panel itself).

When I connect it to my laptop it shows nothing, my laptop monitor goes black and the samsung monitor shows nothing
A friend joined me on teamviewer to check if there's anything wrong in the settings, there wasn't, he made sure that the chosen display was the samsung monitor..
But still, nothing changed.
and yes it showed up in the display settings when my friend connected via teamviewer

So your laptop sees it as a display option but no output. Can you connect it to an HDTV and see what happens?

Nope, I can't do that. My options are limited.
I just want to know if the monitor is completely dead because I'm getting a new pc soon and I can't afford a new monitor..

Well all other things considered, and the fact that your laptop display options can actually "see" the monitor, then that points the finger at your display being bad. Whether it's the panel itself that has failed internally (bad part on the mainboard or a bad internal power supply) or whether it's the input port that has failed is anyone's guess. I assume it's out of warranty. (This is one reason I prefer to buy Dell monitors with 3 or 5-year warranties).

So, there's a chance it could be a bad port? I can try the DVI port if I get my hands on a dvi cable soon..

Solution

It only has 2 ports, DVI-D Dual Link and VGA, I was using the VGA, I'll try the DVI port when I get my hands on a DVI Cable and a pc with a dvi port..
Anyways, thank you so much :) I really appreciate your help.
