Hi, my Samsung np350v5c-s06in laptop has been behaving odd lately. It starts up fine(no flickering). But after 5 to 10 minutes of usage, the display starts flickering. If I keep using the laptop, the flickering also increases.

If I reboot the system when flickering occurs, the flickering remains on the screen after the reboot. But if I turn off the system and turn it back on after some time(like 30 minutes) the filckering doesn't occur until the laptop has been on for 5 to 10 minutes.

I showed my laptop in the nearest service center and they told the entire screen should be replaced(which might cost around $150). Is this really necessary? Could this be a simpler problem?

Please advice me to proceed on this issue. Thank You.

That does appear to be the correct fix. Your display is LED type which means there is no replaceable inverter like you find on LCD displays so the entire display panel gets replaced. The only other possibility would be that the graphics card is failing but that's easily checked by using an external display through the HDMI or VGA connections. If the problem shows up on an external display, then the graphics card is the problem, if no flickering is seen on the external display, the problem is the laptop's display - replacement is the way to fix that.

Than you for your response. And what if it is a graphic card issue? should the whole motherboard be changed?

I could find no information as to whether your graphics card is replaceable or soldered onto the motherboard (I'd assume soldered). If you have problems with the graphics flickering on an external display, then the graphics would need to be checked, it could simply be worn solder joints. You may have facilities nearby that offer repair or reballing services if the graphics card is the problem - I have no clue as to the pricing but would think it would be less expensive than replacement of the motherboard.

Well, today the flickering stopped magically. i don't know how or why. But I am glad that it did fix itself and saved me $150. Hope it doesn't reappear. Anyways thanks for your time and support.

One thing I hadn't considered previously (came to me from your response), it may be the display cable that goes from the motherboard to the display. If the flickering reoccurs, try moving the display to a different angle. If doing that fixes it, the problem would simply be the cable. I'm not sure if the cable itself is replaceable, I didn't look into that.
