When powering up this laptop, the optical drive spins up but the screen stays black. No bios.

I've taken out the hard drive and reconnected it and replaced the CMOS battery with a new one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
You might want to disconnect the laptop from the wall and remove it's battery. Once removed, remove the stick(s) of ram and then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. You can then use an eraser on the gold contacts of the stick(s) of ram, wipe clean of any dust/debris and then reseat the sticks(s) of ram. If you have two sticks tow ork with, try with one stick first. Reconnect to the wall outlet(not the internal battery) and see if you get life out of the laptop.
