I am looking for anyone who has an opinion regarding, or experience with, Samsung LCDs. In particular, I have an ad in my hand for the 20" widescreen 206BW. Specs say 2ms response and 3000:1 contrast ratio for US$279.00.

Are Samsung products worthwhile? Dependable? Is this monitor as good as it seems on paper? Is this a good deal? :!: :?: :!:

Don't know about the 206BW specifically, but Samsung is one of the quality makers... and one of my favs.... and FWIW, other favorites are NEC and Planar. Also, I have 3, Dell 1905s and they are perfect for "VA panels at 20ms".

I have owned two Samsung LCD's (17" and current 19" model [915N]) and have had very good experiences with both ... no dead pixels that I could find, decent if functional looks (do a much better job with current models) and good picture quality. One of the main reasons I was attracted to Samsung is the 3 year warranty.

I am currently looking at getting a 226BW, which has the same operational specs. All of the reviews I have found have been very good. As to the 3000:1 contrast ratio, that is only in dynamic mode. A couple of reviews I read recommended against enabling that feature, but said the 1000:1 regular mode was still superior. Here are a couple of the reviews:
