Samsung PM830 SSD 32gb mSATA incompatibility

Hi there,

I recently put my Dell XPS500 in a new case with some other new hardware. Everything works fine apart from the SSD that (I think) is used to cache the hard drive. The SSD is OEM specific so I can't download Samsung drivers but it used to work fine before I re-cased it. Now, when I open Intel rapid storage technology it says the SSD is incompatible. The Intel solution is to put it back in the old system (the system hasn't been changed) or to delete the volume and create a new volume with a RAID configuration that's supported by the current system. I can't delete anything as it isn't recognised in windows device manager but it is recognised in BIOS.

TLDR; My SSD is incompatible with intel storage manager. Please make it compatible again!

Look for Advanced>Integrated Peripherals>SATA Mode. Under SATA Mode you should see AHCI or RAID.

I can see ATCHI, although I seem to remember it under a different menu. Anyway, it's currently ACHI. Should I select RAID from the drop down menu when selecting ATCHI? A warning message about file loss and not being able to boot properly comes up. Is it wise to go ahead and select RAID?

Yes, you want to switch it to "RAID". However, you need to make some modifications to your registry before that. Gimme some time and I'll find some info on what you need to do first.

OK - Before you switch you BIOS, go to this site and make the appropriate changes to your registry for changing AHCI to Raid: http://www.overclock.net/t/1227636/how-to-change-sata-modes-after-windows-7-installation

After you have done that, change your SATA Mode in the BIOS to RAID and you should be on your way!

Thanks mate, got it sorted now. Just in case anyone else reads this in the future, you'll need to wipe the SSD in the Intel RAID configuration after changing your SATA mode to RAID in BIOS.

Had exactly the same problem pointed out by falcon1439, got it sorted in the same way:
- set up Win 8.1 to reboot in safe mode
- reboot and access BIOS
- change SATA mode in BIOS from AHCI to RAID
- boot Win 8.1 in safe mode, disable rebooting in safe mode
- boot Win 8.1 normally
- disassociate and re-associate SSD using the Intel Rapid Storage utility

I've registered only to say thanks Y0GI, because it's well deserved.

I'm having the same issues. So glad I found this article specifically explaining my problem. Only thing is that my sata operation is set to AHCI but I can't find the option to format the ssd...
Could someone be so kind to explain me what to do?

You don't need to format the drive. You just need to switch from AHCI ti RAID in BIOS settings, the SSD drive is used as a cache and it does not store information as a physical drive, the whole process of formatting is being taken care of by the OS.
