Hello everyone his is my first question on the site as a very new member. I have been doing some research on a processor upgrade for my now 4 year old laptop. It is still spec'd fairly well. i5 460m, 8g of ram (max allowed), and a nvidia 330m with 1g of memory. This is an s01 model...
My question is to if anyone has a for sure compatible processor upgrade. I know that the -S02 models had an i7 760m that will likely swap right into this computer but I am unable to find confirmation on this.
So first has anyone tried switching the processor?
I have found a web page that seems to indicate that a plethora of chips would (http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G1%20(rPGA988A).html) possibly work but the i7s for the most part are clocked much lower than the i5. I do modest gaming with this laptop on the go and for the most part am very satisfied. It is getting a little long in the tooth right now and was looking for more performance. So would it be worth going to a lower clocked i7 or sticking with the higher clocked i5. I know most games don't use more than 2 threads of code. So I am guessing higher clock speed is the better choice?
Okay now using my (admittedly limited) desktop upgrade experience and the program CPU-Z to find that my motherboard chipset is Havendale/Clarksdale with the southbridge HM-55 does that mean any processor that uses the HM-55 southbridge would work with my board?
Thanks if anyone has any info/experience cause Samsung is remarkably unhelpful.
