I was asked by a friend whose SSD died on him whether he would be able to use the M.2 drive Samsung SM951 with his motherboard (ASUS Crosshair IV Formula)? I spent about an hour trying to research it, but I'm just as clueless as before, and it's started to give me a headache trying to figure out something that somebody with more knowledge can probably answer in 2 minutes.

Thanks.

No, that board does not have an M.2 slot.

If he got a PCIe Adaptor card he can do that and run the drive, but he wouldn't be able to boot from it.

He is better off getting an 850 EVO.
