Hey Everyone - my Samsung Smart TV will not connect to the internet anymore. I am not sure what the model is (cannot find model number in the menus and it's mounted on the wall so cannot look at the back-it is a 3D 50"). I have tried everything I could think of as well as tried some of the solutions suggested on this board (i.e., changing the DNS address, resetting the TV, Resetting the router, manually setting the network information, etc.). I currently have 10 devices connected to my router wirelessly with no issues.

My Router is an ActionTec V1000 (came with my Telus Optic TV).

Basically what happens is the IP address it assigns my TV during network setup in the TV menus is not what I would expect (like 169.XX.XXX etc. when it should be 192.168.1.#) and the Gateway starts out as 255.255 like it should but near the end of that address and the DNS address are all zeros.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

Solution
Time to call Samsung.

If out of warranty, may wanna investigate whether you can ADD A DONGLE, or use ETHERNET cabling.

One last thing to try is, unplug TV (power) overnight see if it does anything.
That 169 address is the TV's way of telling you "I am not getting an IP assigned to me by DHCP so am gonna use a standard IP in the hope that at least get us SOME connectivity."

Does this TV use a WIFI dongle? if so you do may have to reach back and do a unplug-replug.

Always reboot your WIFI router and DHCP server.

If none of these work, attempt to reset TV to factory setting.

Hi jsmithepa,
Thanks for the quick reply. The wifi came built into the TV (I don't think there is a dongle - would it be immediately obvious?). It has been mounted on the wall for over a year and just recently started having connectivity issues. I tried restoring the tv to factory settings with no such luck.

What's also interesting is if there was a dongle and it was unplugged then you would think the network setup would not be able to find my network - which it does and asks for my password.

When I log into my router I cannot find anything about rebooting the DHCP server. Would resetting the router also reset the DHCP server?

One of the troubleshoot items on the tv when it doesn't connect is to ensure the router has DHCP enabled - so it may have something to do with this.

Consult the manual or look behind TV.

Great but you are thinking a work/no-work situation, am talking something more granular, and needing a dongle's circuitry reset, IF it has a dongle.

U can do reset via administrator menu or, more simply, YANK the power cord, wait 10 seconds, replug. Often times DHCP server is in the WIFI router but not always, I am not there, I did not set up your equipment. I only know reboot both items, and if both items are in the same box, good, just reboot that box then.

That's what I said from my first reply. But the fact that your other wireless devices are working, it kind of tells me the DHCP is KINDA working but to be sure I would REBOOT it anyway.

You don't know what's what, somebody else set up your equipment, REBOOT everything.

Rebooting everything - factory reset TV and router. There is no dongle - took TV off wall and everything is self contained. In my experience with Samsung TVs its likely I have a lemon....
