Hi everyone,

Today I got my new Samsung 850 EVO 500Gb new Ssd.
I have used Samsung Data Migration Software to clone my complete C: drive into SSD, and everything worked pretty well.

After that I tried to run Samsung Magician tool, which says:
"Magician is unable to find Samsung SSD connected to your system, so some of the Magician features may not work correctly.........Please always use the latest storage driver or Microsoft driver."

Again when I open Data Migration tool, I can see my Samsung Ssd in the Target drive and it has 150GB filled (C: drive clone of my existing HDD).

Please help, how can I see my SSD in the Magician tool.

Also let me know, if this is all good, as I can see the data already cloned on to the Ssd, so that I can swap my Hdd to Ssd. I dont want to swap the incorrectly cloned/configured Ssd and make my PC die without any reason.

Thanks,
Satya

Solution
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for responding to my thread.

I have reached to Samsung's Customer care, and their response:

"Satya,

Samsung Magician does not detect external connections and it only works with internal connections. Once the drive is connected internally then Samsung Magician will be able to see the drive."

After the cloning process, I just tried to find the SSD via Samsung's Magician software when it is still connected via USB-to-SATA cable as an external drive, which is why I couldn't see the drive in the Magician.

Data Migration Software detected the SSD drive because, that's the main purpose of this software(to clone an externally connected SSD).

So once I swapped my HDD with SSD internally, I could find my new SSD in...

psoohoo

i ran into the same issue. I pick up a 950 Pro and the Magician didnt see the drive.
I dont remember the exact link i download the original version.

I went back to the Samsung site, choose the exact drive and did the download and that version saw it.
Weird.

How are you connecting the new SSD drive to your system?

I had a similar issue - with the SSD drive on a usb/Sata cable
- Only when I replaced the old HDD with the new SDD, and had the old one no longer connected could I see the drive using the magician -
-In fact ... even though I could see the USB connected SSD in Device Manager
- it would not show up in the File Explorer ...

Also - just for anyone else out there doing this:
There were some interesting leftovers from the old "C" drive - when I followed the "shortcut" from the Magician OS Optimization link to System Restore ... there was a reference to a "Missing" C: drive (the old HDD)

I also have to say ... that even though my laptop has an old SATA interface - WOW - the speed increase, response times etc were really significant - things just seem to pop now .. so glad I took the time to do this .

I spent most of my time looking at my old 1 TB hard drive - backing things up, removing things I would never use again ... to this end I use a free tool WinDirStat which shows you all of your files in a graphical representation (larger squares for larger files) ... made it faster to look around and see which huge files were out there ...

Let's clarify your situation, OK?

1. After you cloned the contents of your former boot drive to the Samsung SSD, the disk-cloning operation proceeded normally with no errors, right?

2. When you booted to the newly-cloned boot drive did it boot & function normally? Was there any problem with the boot or with the functioning of the drive if it did properly boot?

3. Is the basic problem *only* that Samsung Magician reports an inability to detect the disk? That aside from that problem the drive functions just fine?

Data Migration Software detected the SSD drive because, that's the main purpose of this software(to clone an externally connected SSD).

So once I swapped my HDD with SSD internally, I could find my new SSD in Magician (after the reboot with New SSD internally) and able to configure to RAPID mode as well which is amazingly fast.

I appreciate everyone's response for my thread. It really helped me to get more insight of my Laptop's hardware configuration.

Thanks a lot.

Peace! :)

Actually Samsung Magician does, in effect, detect the Samsung drive while it's connected as a USB external device. It's just that Samsung Magician will reflect the disk as a USB external device. It will indicate a serial number and the disk-space capacity of the disk. But, of course, no other detailed info re the make/model # of the SSD nor would the user be able to run any optimization, benchmarks, etc., as he/she could were the disk connected as an internal drive.
