So Ive recently installed a Samsung SSD 850 evo, But I keep getting messages on the windows action center in the taskbar that the drive needs repairing and that I should restart the computer to run Chkdsk to repair it. When I have done this and restarted I still get the same error again.

How can I solve this?

Note: I dont know if this would make any difference but I still have the old HDD installed in the other slot which has windows on it, But the laptop is set to boot from the SSD.

Solution

I'd recommend following these instructions to check for any Windows installation files errors:

1. Boot into Safe Mode
2. Press "Windows"
3. Type "cmd" (without speech marks)
4. Right click on "Command Prompt"
5. Select "Run as Administrator"
6. Enter "sfc /scannow" (without speech marks) and hit enter
7. Allow the scan to complete fully

Let me know what the scan shows.

Okay just tried the S.M.A.R.T test and the status column on the end says OK all the way down the list. Is that fine then?

When I go to the "Over Provisioning" section on the Samsung Magician software, an error comes up there saying "Volume may be corrupted, Use Chkdsk to fix the corruption problem and then try again"

Okay so I did that scan and this is what it said "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

So I guess it has fixed any problems if there was any.

I have encountered another problem now, Basically the finger print scanner doesnt seem to work. I have installed the driver from the acer website for my laptop (they only have the win7 one) but the setup wizard says it cannot find the finger print device however the finger print reader is listed in device manager as installed and says the device is working properly. On my HDD with windows 8.1 the finger print reader was working fine. Could you help me on this or should I start another thread in a different section?

Thanks for your help regarding the SSD :)

If you could mark this thread as solved and start a new one, you'll have more chance of getting help from others.

Same happened to me, after I deleted a couple of useless partitions and resized my system partition.
All disk-check utilities report the system partition as OK, but still Samsung Magician insists that this "Volume may be corrupted" and does not give any option for over provisioning
